Tynningö

Quick details

Paddle around charming Tynningö and see beautiful swedish houses and architecture.

This is a proposal for full day kayaking or trip with the overnight, depending on how long do you want to paddle per day. Start paddling through Bogesund Nature Reserve. After about 1 – 1,5h paddling from our kayak center you will pass by restaurant located on the tiny island Getfoten. It might be great option for lunch or dinner. Restaurant used to be open during the summer season.

Continue paddling around 7 km long Tynningö island which is operated by regular archipelago ferry from Vaxholm and Stockholm as well as a car ferry between eastern Tynningö and Norra Lagnö (Tynningöleden). The name Tynningö may have originated as early as the Viking Age. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the island changed owners several times. In the 19th century, the island was divided into smaller farms. Agricultural activities were going on on the island until the 1980s. At the beginning of the 20th century, parts of Tynningö were divided into smaller plots. The properties were sold to summer guests who went to Tynningö by steamboat. There have been several general stores on Tynningö. In 1951, the country store stopped shipping over the counter and introduced Tynningö self-purchase, which was thus one of the first supermarket stores in Sweden. Nowadays the island has a population of about 400 year-round residents and twice as much in the summer time.

It’s possible to rent our Base Camp on Björnholmen island. Contact us for more details if you would like to stay on remote island and have it for yourself. We are organizing company, school and private group events there.

Due to the high water traffic with ferries and other vessels this route is recommended for more experienced paddlers.

Plan your route according to your skills and weather forecast. You are responsible for conducting proper behaviour according to the traffic rules.
