Vaxholm

Take a look on Vaxholm Fortress (Vaxholms Fästning) dating back to the 1500s and built by King Gustav Vasa. Located between Vaxholm and Rindö, was used to defend Stockholm. Pass by Norrhamn with traditional fishing cottages located in the north harbor on Vaxholm. Don’t miss also museum about fishing history of Vaxholm and summer cafe Hembygdsgården known for its homemade cakes and pastries. If you are planning picnic, BBQ and swimming there is wonderful spot on Tenö beach.

Vaxholm and surrounding islands are also home to a number of famous personalities of various fields, just to name few: Zlatan Ibrahimović – a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Serie A club AC Milan and the Sweden national team; Börje Salming – a Swedish retired professional ice hockey defenceman; Ingemar Stenmark – a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Sweden, regarded as one of the most prominent Swedish athletes ever.

Due to the high water traffic with ferries and other vessels this route is recommended for more experienced paddlers.
