Estimating Distance for Better Route Planning

Plan smarter, paddle farther. Learn how to estimate kayaking distances and time based on your pace, the weather, and your experience level.

Planning a kayaking trip in the archipelago? Knowing how far you’ll go—and how long it will take—is key to a safe and enjoyable adventure.

🚣‍♂️ How fast can you paddle?
Average paddling speed in a sea kayak is about 4–5 km/h, but this can change depending on wind speed, direction, waves, and how loaded your kayak is.

🟢 Route difficulty grading
Here’s a rough guide to help you plan your route based on your experience and fitness level:

  • Easy: For beginners or relaxed trips
    ~10–20 km/day (2–4 hours paddling)
  • Moderate: For experienced kayakers
    ~15–30 km/day (3–5 hours paddling)
  • Demanding: For very experienced paddlers
    ~20–40 km/day (4–7 hours paddling)

💨 Keep in mind: Wind and weather can double the time and effort needed. Always check the forecast and plan conservatively.
