Wondering when’s the best time to go kayaking or canoeing in Sweden? The paddling season in the Stockholm Archipelago typically runs from May to late September, with each part of the season offering something special.
☀️ Summer Season (May–September)
This is the most popular time for multi-day kayaking and canoe trips.
- Long daylight: In June and early July, you’ll get up to 18 hours of daylight—perfect for long paddling days and sunset dinners by the water.
- Midsummer magic: Celebrate Swedish Midsummer in late June—either on your own island or in a local village like Vaxholm.
Our kayak center is open daily mid-May to mid-September, offering:
- Sea kayaks, expedition kayaks, canoes, SUPs
- Complete wild camping gear packages (tent, sleeping bag, stove, etc.)

🌅 Late Summer (mid-August–late September)
This is our favorite time to paddle.
- Fewer boats and people
- Peaceful nature and glowing sunsets
- A more tranquil, authentic archipelago experience
Just be aware: the water gets colder, and the weather can be more unpredictable. If you’re planning a trip in late September, some paddling and camping experience is recommended.
Seasonal Tip:
Shops, cafés, and restaurants in the archipelago are usually open from Midsummer until mid/late August. Outside this window, plan to bring your own food and supplies.
❄️ Off-Season (October–April)
Most rentals pause during this time, but we do offer guided winter kayaking tours.
- We provide all necessary winter gear
- A unique, peaceful experience on calm, crisp waters
