Passing by Vaxholm Fortress

On your way, you’ll pass the historic Vaxholm Fortress, a 16th-century stronghold that once guarded Stockholm. Today, it stands as a museum and a well-known landmark of the archipelago.

Charming Stegesundet Strait

Continue through Stegesundet, a narrow and picturesque passage between Skarpö and Stegesund. Lined with stunning summer villas from the early 1900s, this strait is one of the most scenic routes in the area. It is also a busy waterway used by Waxholmsbolaget and Cinderella ferries. Be sure to avoid the ferry lanes and follow navigation rules.

Secret Kayak-Only Channel

For an extra adventure, take a shortcut through a hidden channel between Vikingsborg and Stegesund. This narrow passage was carved into the rock and is only accessible by kayak when water levels are high enough.

Fika and Relax in Norrhamn

Before heading back to the kayak rental, stop in Norrhamn, a beautiful, picturesque harbor with charming old wooden houses along the water. This tranquil spot has a small beach for a swim and a lovely café by the water where you can enjoy a relaxing fika. It’s a perfect place to unwind with a cup of coffee and perhaps a delicious cinnamon bun before continuing your journey.
