Meet your guide at Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, just outside Vaxholm. After a warm welcome, we’ll get everyone geared up and ready for adventure. Kids and adults receive comfortable paddling gear, and there’s time to change and store your belongings securely.
Before heading out, we’ll go over safety and basic paddling techniques in a fun and relaxed way — perfect for kids and beginners. We can also offer canoes or SUPs depending on your family’s preference.
Your family adventure takes place in one of the most scenic and protected parts of the Stockholm Archipelago – the beautiful Bogesund Nature Reserve.
We’ll paddle through calm, sheltered waters surrounded by forested islands, colorful wooden cottages, and rich wildlife.
This peaceful route is perfect for beginners and families, with plenty of opportunities to spot seals, coastal birds, or even beavers. Our kayaks are stable and beginner-friendly, and your guide will adapt the pace to suit everyone.

Take a well-earned break for traditional fika! Enjoy coffee, juice, and sweet treats on a peaceful island beach. Kids can stretch their legs, explore the shoreline, or take a dip in the sea.
Your guide will share fun nature facts, wildlife sightings, and tales about island life. Keep your eyes open for seals, seabirds, and maybe even a curious beaver.
Paddle back along a different route, ending the day at the kayak center. Want to finish with a warm treat? Add a traditional seaside sauna – a cozy and fun family experience.
After your tour, we also recommend heading into Vaxholm to explore it on foot. It’s a charming town perfect for an afternoon stroll, souvenir shopping, and treating yourself to some delicious local ice cream.
Dress for the weather! We recommend comfortable outdoor clothing and a windproof jacket. We provide paddling jackets for extra warmth if needed. There’s a beach at the end where you can swim, so don’t forget your swimsuit and towel!
Absolutely! This tour is beginner-friendly, and your guide will give you a quick introduction before we start. The waters are calm, making it a great experience even for first-time paddlers. However, a moderate level of physical fitness is recommended.
We mainly use stable 2-person kayaks that are easy to paddle and ideal for families — kids can sit comfortably in the front while an adult steers.
If you’d prefer a canoe (great for 2 adults + 1–2 small kids) or a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) for a fun challenge, just let us know when booking. These options are available on request and depend on group composition and weather conditions.

Getting here is easy and eco-friendly. Our kayak center is just a short, scenic trip from Stockholm by public transport.

Safety first! We paddle in light rain, which can actually make for a more atmospheric experience! However, if the weather conditions are unsafe, we’ll offer to reschedule your tour or provide a full refund. Don’t worry, we also provide waterproof jackets and hats to keep you comfortable during the adventure!

Yes! At Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, you’re welcome to leave larger items like suitcases or backpacks securely on-site during your tour.
For smaller items you’d like to bring — such as a towel for swimming or a change of clothes — we provide waterproof drybags and there’s extra space in the kayak’s hatch. No need to pack light — our kayaks can handle it comfortably 😊
