Trip Overview
Experience the magic of the Stockholm Archipelago on this self-guided overnight kayak adventure. Explore two of our favorite islands – Finnhamn and Husarö – along with secluded nature reserves and a sunken shipwreck, all under your own steam.
We’ve included one extra day in the package to give you more freedom – whether to paddle further, enjoy a relaxed pace, or wait for the perfect weather conditions.
Finnhamn is one of the most popular islands in the archipelago, offering a mix of lush forests, meadows, and rocky shores. High on a flat, rocky outcrop stands Utsikten – The View – a historic summer house built in 1914 by a prosperous coal merchant from Stockholm. The house, now serving as Finnhamn’s hostel, has become a symbol of the island and its unique atmosphere. Finnhamn also boasts a holiday village, campsite, guest harbour, sauna, swimming facilities, café, and a restaurant with a rooftop bar – the perfect spot to enjoy music evenings and what is often called “the most beautiful view in the archipelago.”
Enjoy scenic hiking trails and spot deer, badgers, and various bird species in the diverse natural landscape.
Husarö, with its rich maritime history, was once a pilot station guiding ships through the archipelago. The island is dotted with peaceful bays, red cabins, and forest paths. Don’t miss the remains of an old shipwreck resting beneath the waters in the north-west part of the island – a hidden treasure for curious explorers, believed to be the wreck of the sailing vessel from the late 19th century.
Paddle through the Hallonstenarna nature reserve, a cluster of small islands with untouched nature and vibrant birdlife. The islands still have holiday homes, although no permanent inhabitants anymore. The area was once inhabited, and traces of old settlements can still be seen.
Travel light! With our premium kayaking and camping gear provided, all you need is your personal essentials. Start your adventure with just a carry-on and seamlessly explore the Stockholm Archipelago, navigating through thousands of islands, surrounded by stunning waters and scenic landscapes.

Frequently asked questions
For Paddling:

For Cooler Months (May and September):
Outdoor clothes should be chosen based on the weather forecast. Avoid cotton and opt for quick-drying fabrics or merino wool instead. Quick-dry hiking pants or shorts, a thermal top, and wet shoes or sandals with proper straps (shoes you don’t mind getting wet) are recommended. Make sure to pack a fleece too, just in case it gets chilly later in the day.
In the event of rain or bad weather during your self-guided adventure, it’s essential to prioritize safety while waiting for the weather to clear. Remember to pack appropriate outdoor clothing to stay warm and dry. In Sweden, we believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes, so be prepared for any conditions. While thunderstorms are rare and usually pass quickly, it’s a good idea to bring along a book or cards to pass the time.
Absolutely! Our part of the archipelago is beginner-friendly, with calm waters and sheltered conditions. It’s not open sea with strong currents, so you can choose an easy route. We recommend going in groups of at least two for safety, and our canoes and double kayaks are particularly easy to handle, even for first-timers.
Our kayak center is easily accessible and affordable via public transportation, with the bus stop located just 100 meters away. We highly recommend arriving by bus and returning by ferry for a scenic and enjoyable journey.
To reach us, take the T14 subway line towards Mörby Centrum. Upon arrival at Danderyds sjukhus station, transfer to bus 670, which stops at the Engarn station, a short walk from our center. For more detailed information, including schedules and routes, please visit the waxholmsbolaget.se website. Tickets for the subway and bus can be purchased at sl.se.
