Explore the wild side of the Stockholm Archipelago on our 3-day kayak adventure. Paddle from island to island, camp under the stars, and disconnect from the world.
Preparing for Your Adventure
We’ll meet at our kayak base by the sea – just 30 minutes from Stockholm. Over Swedish fika (coffee and pastries!), you’ll get to know your guide and fellow paddlers. We’ll go through the plan for the trip, safety tips, and the basics of kayaking in the archipelago. Then it’s time to pack your gear into dry bags, adjust your kayak, and get ready to launch.
Time to Paddle!
With your kayak fully loaded and the sea ahead, we paddle off into the islands. The route often heads towards Grinda, but the exact plan depends on wind and weather. Along the way, we’ll stop on a small scenic island to cook and enjoy our first outdoor lunch together – tasty, simple, and cooked right by the sea.
Camp & Chill
In the afternoon, we’ll choose a peaceful island for our first camp. Time to set up your tent, go for a swim, or just relax by the water. Dinner is cooked together under the open sky – it always tastes better after a day of paddling. As the sun sets and the sea calms, we wind down by the campfire and settle into archipelago life.
After a relaxed breakfast by the sea, we’ll break camp and paddle deeper into the archipelago. Depending on the wind and weather, our route may take us past iconic islands like Grinda and Gällnö, known for their wild beauty, peaceful forests, and postcard-perfect red cottages dotting the shorelines.
We’ll glide through narrow passages and open bays, stopping on picturesque islands for a refreshing swim, a snack, and an outdoor lunch surrounded by nature.
As we paddle, keep your eyes peeled for white-tailed eagles soaring above, ospreys hunting, and the occasional curious seal popping up to say hello. Each island we pass tells its own quiet story – shaped by wind, sea, and time.
In the afternoon, we’ll search for the perfect island campsite. Once we land, there’s time for a swim, pitching tents, and preparing dinner as the sun sets behind the trees. A peaceful end to a day of true island adventuring.
On your final day, we’ll make the most of the morning with one last paddle through the stunning archipelago, taking in the peaceful waters and breathtaking scenery. After a delicious lunch on a beautiful island, we’ll head back to our kayak base, where you’ll have time to repack and refresh. While we take care of the equipment, feel free to unwind—if you wish, you can opt for a relaxing sauna session (available as an add-on).
After a final debriefing with your guides and fellow adventurers, you’ll be ready to catch public transport back to Stockholm. Public transport options are nearby, making it easy to head back to the city. We recommend spending the afternoon relaxing in Stockholm, treating yourself to a well-deserved dinner and enjoying a taste of urban life after your wild adventure.

For Paddling:
For Land:
A full packing list is sent after booking, and your guide will help you prepare before the trip. At Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, we make it easy to travel light — so you can focus on the adventure, not the gear.
We recommend dressing for the weather — and the water. In summer, it’s best to wear lightweight, quick-drying outdoor clothes. Avoid cotton, as it stays wet and cold; instead, choose technical fabrics or merino wool.
Good choices include:
We also provide paddling jackets to help keep you dry and comfortable while on the water — no need to bring your own.
At Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, we always say: dress for comfort, not just style — the right clothing makes all the difference. After booking, you’ll receive a full packing list to help you prepare.
Absolutely! This multi-day adventure is beginner-friendly, and your guide will give you a thorough introduction to paddling and safety before we set off. You’ll learn everything you need to know along the way, and we’ll take it at a pace that works for the group. While no previous kayaking experience is required, a moderate level of physical fitness will help you enjoy the journey comfortably.
At Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, many of our guests are first-time paddlers — and they often leave with big smiles and great memories.
We mainly use stable, comfortable double kayaks — they’re easy to paddle and perfect for most of our guests, whether you’re a beginner or have some experience.
If you’re paddling solo and have good kayaking skills, you may be assigned a single kayak. In groups with an odd number of participants, we sometimes pair people up to make sure everyone enjoys the trip. Our guide will help arrange the best setup for you.
At Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, we focus on making your time on the water smooth, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
Your trip will still go ahead — and it can be just as magical. At Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, safety always comes first. Our experienced guides monitor the weather closely and choose the best route each day based on wind and conditions.
A pleasant surprise for many guests: the weather in the Stockholm Archipelago is often better than in the city. Rain clouds tend to stay over the mainland, while the islands enjoy more sun and open skies.
We follow the Swedish saying: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” With the right layers and rain gear, you’ll stay comfortable — even if you get a little wet, which is part of the adventure! Thunderstorms are rare and usually pass quickly, and some of the most memorable paddling days happen under light rain, with stories shared over a warm drink and a tarp.
Hotel pick-up is not included in regular bookings. However, for private group tours, we can arrange pick-up on request — just let us know in advance.
That said, getting to Skärgårdens Kanotcenter is easy and straightforward. Most guests arrive by public transport from Stockholm without any hassle. We’ve detailed the best travel options on this page to help you plan your journey smoothly 🚣✨
Yes — getting to Skärgårdens Kanotcenter is both easy and eco-friendly. Many of our guests are surprised by how smooth the journey is without a car.
From Stockholm, you have two great options:
Option 1:
Take the T14 subway to Danderyds sjukhus, then transfer to bus 670. Get off at Engarn — just a 2-minute walk from our kayak center. SL public transport is modern and climate-conscious — most buses on this route run on biodiesel. A single ticket costs around 43 SEK and can be paid with a contactless card or mobile. (More at sl.se.)
Option 2:
Enjoy the scenic route: take a Waxholmsbolaget ferry from Strömkajen (Stockholm city center) to Vaxholm. The 1-hour cruise takes you through the heart of the archipelago. From Vaxholm, catch bus 670 to Engarn (5 minutes). Ferry tickets cost approx. 100 SEK and are payable onboard by card.
Many guests say the journey feels like part of the adventure — and a perfect introduction to their experience with us.

Yes, we do. After you pack your essentials into the dry bags provided for the tour, you’re welcome to leave your suitcase or larger backpack safely at Skärgårdens Kanotcenter. We’ll store it securely while you’re out paddling — no extra charge.
We encourage disconnecting, but yes — in most parts of the archipelago, you’ll still have mobile coverage. Signal strength varies depending on your provider and location. Don’t expect Wi-Fi, but you might be able to check messages or take that perfect sunset photo for your stories.
At Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, we think a little digital detox is part of the magic.
