Trip Overview
Paddle across the archipelago, camp under the stars, and recharge in a wood-fired sauna on Träskö-Storö — one of our favorite islands. Follow the route or find your own path — adventure is always better with a sauna at the finish line.
This 6-day adventure blends kayaking, nature trails, and relaxation. With a chance to spot foxes, deer, or even moose, and to follow in the footsteps of islanders who have lived here for generations, this trip invites you to slow down, connect with nature, and experience the magic of the archipelago by day and night.
Discover the Hjälmö-Lådna Nature Reserve, where the Archipelago Foundation has protected large parts of the land since 1963. Hidden trails wind through lush forests and rocky landscapes, while grazing sheep from local farms roam freely across the islands.
Träskö-Storö is part of this unique nature reserve — a perfect place to hike scenic trails, camp by the water, and unwind in the public wood-fired sauna after days of island hopping.
Travel light! With our premium kayaking and camping gear provided, all you need is your personal essentials. Start your adventure with just a carry-on and seamlessly explore the Stockholm Archipelago, navigating through thousands of islands, surrounded by stunning waters and scenic landscapes.
Relax in traditional public wood-fired saunas – the perfect way to unwind after a day of paddling. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the Baltic sea before stepping into the warmth of the sauna. These simple yet magical places are a cherished part of Swedish archipelago life, offering a unique way to connect with nature and local traditions.
Spot foxes, deer, badgers, and even the occasional moose while exploring the islands both on foot and from your kayak. The waters around Träskö-Storö are also home to seals, and you might catch a glimpse of them basking on the rocks.
Take a break from kayaking to explore the islands by foot. Meander along trails that reveal stunning vistas, peaceful forests, and hidden treasures that make the archipelago unforgettable.

For Cooler Months (May and September):
Outdoor clothes should be chosen based on the weather forecast. Avoid cotton and opt for quick-drying fabrics or merino wool instead. Quick-dry hiking pants or shorts, a thermal top, and wet shoes or sandals with proper straps (shoes you don’t mind getting wet) are recommended. Make sure to pack a fleece too, just in case it gets chilly later in the day.
In the event of rain or bad weather during your self-guided adventure, it’s essential to prioritize safety while waiting for the weather to clear. Remember to pack appropriate outdoor clothing to stay warm and dry. In Sweden, we believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes, so be prepared for any conditions. While thunderstorms are rare and usually pass quickly, it’s a good idea to bring along a book or cards to pass the time.
Absolutely! Our part of the archipelago is beginner-friendly, with calm waters and sheltered conditions. It’s not open sea with strong currents, so you can choose an easy route. We recommend going in groups of at least two for safety, and our canoes and double kayaks are particularly easy to handle, even for first-timers.
Our kayak center is easily accessible and affordable via public transportation, with the bus stop located just 100 meters away. We highly recommend arriving by bus and returning by ferry for a scenic and enjoyable journey.
To reach us, take the T14 subway line towards Mörby Centrum. Upon arrival at Danderyds sjukhus station, transfer to bus 670, which stops at the Engarn station, a short walk from our center. For more detailed information, including schedules and routes, please visit the waxholmsbolaget.se website. Tickets for the subway and bus can be purchased at sl.se.
