Stockholm Archipelago: A National Geographic Favorite

Named National Geographic’s Best of the World 2025, the Stockholm Archipelago is a unique world of around 30,000 islands and skerries, just 30 minutes from Stockholm’s city center. It’s a perfect destination for island-hopping and kayaking trips, offering unforgettable overnight adventures.

Among these islands, you’ll discover charming cafes, restaurants, and even public saunas. Grinda’s nature and beaches, Gällnö’s picturesque landscapes and cottages, and Möja’s hiking trails and scenic views await you. For a more tranquil experience, our canoes offer access to the peaceful inner parts of the archipelago, including the stunning Bogesund Nature Reserve.

Sleep Under the Stars

Spend your nights under a blanket of stars, nestled in your cozy tent in the serenity of nature. Cooking under the open sky adds a touch of magic to your outdoor experience, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Flexible Options

Choose between single or double kayaks, or a canoe, with pricing based on per person. If you need to change your booking for an important reason, we offer flexibility and will do our best to reschedule your adventure to a more suitable date, whenever possible.

Tranquil Canoe Journeys

Ideal for a peaceful escape, our canoes offer the perfect way to explore the serene inner parts of the archipelago and the beauty of the Bogesund Nature Reserve. For longer journeys into the outer archipelago and more distant islands, we recommend our expedition kayaks.

This is more than just a trip—it’s a journey through one of the most stunning natural landscapes, where every island has a story to tell.

Outdoor clothes should be chosen based on the weather forecast. Avoid cotton and opt for quick-drying fabrics or merino wool instead. Quick-dry hiking pants or shorts, a thermal top, and wet shoes or sandals with proper straps (shoes you don’t mind getting wet) are recommended. Make sure to pack a fleece too, just in case it gets chilly later in the day.

In the event of rain or bad weather during your self-guided adventure, it’s essential to prioritize safety while waiting for the weather to clear. Remember to pack appropriate outdoor clothing to stay warm and dry. In Sweden, we believe there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes, so be prepared for any conditions. While thunderstorms are rare and usually pass quickly, it’s a good idea to bring along a book or cards to pass the time.

Absolutely! Our part of the archipelago is beginner-friendly, with calm waters and sheltered conditions. It’s not open sea with strong currents, so you can choose an easy route. We recommend going in groups of at least two for safety, and our canoes and double kayaks are particularly easy to handle, even for first-timers.

Our kayak center is easily accessible and affordable via public transportation, with the bus stop located just 100 meters away. We highly recommend arriving by bus and returning by ferry for a scenic and enjoyable journey.

To reach us, take the T14 subway line towards Mörby Centrum. Upon arrival at Danderyds sjukhus station, transfer to bus 670, which stops at the Engarn station, a short walk from our center. For more detailed information, including schedules and routes, please visit the waxholmsbolaget.se website. Tickets for the subway and bus can be purchased at sl.se.
