Paddle from Resarö to Åkersberga

This scenic route takes you across Trälhavet towards Åkersberga. Along the way, you’ll pass the beautiful Näsudden nature reserve and the historic Margretelund Castle. It’s ideal for a full-day kayaking tour or extend it with an overnight stay.

Fika Break on Trälhavsgrundet Islands

These two tiny islands are located in the middle of Trälhavet. They’re perfect for a fika break or even wild camping. Expect peaceful nature and great views across the water.

Margretelund Castle by Kayak

As you continue north, you’ll spot a grand building on the shoreline—Margretelunds slott. The manor dates back to the early 17th century and has belonged to several noble families. The current appearance of the main building is from 1897, and the estate is still privately owned by the Åkerhielm family. The castle grounds include stables and pastures, and it’s not unusual to see horses grazing by the water or even approaching the shore—often curious about passing kayakers. This quiet stretch offers a beautiful mix of history, nature, and unexpected encounters.

Näsudden Nature Reserve

This peaceful reserve is a hidden gem in the inner Stockholm archipelago. Originally two separate islands—Kristenholmen and Gästholmen—land uplift has turned them into a single peninsula. The area offers a surprising variety of landscapes: forested hills, old pine and spruce trees, flower-rich meadows, coastal pastures, and wetlands in excellent condition. Näsudden is also a great spot for birdwatching and seasonal wildflowers, making it a favorite for nature lovers paddling through the archipelago.

Explore Åkers Canal

Extend your kayak tour by entering Åkers kanal (Åker’s Canal), once part of a Viking trade route known as Långhundraleden. Paddle about 2 km inland and experience a completely different scenery. At the end of the canal, you’ll reach a lock that opens at designated times—check local schedules if you plan to continue further.

Fika Stop at Solbrännan

The seaside café and restaurant Solbrännan is a great place for lunch or fika. In peak summer, note that the beach is crowded and kayaks are not allowed to land directly—plan your stop carefully or visit during off-season.

Keep in Mind: Open Waters and Traffic

Trälhavet is a wide, open body of water, which means it can be windy. In summer, expect increased boat traffic on the main routes, so plan accordingly and stay alert while paddling.
