Join us on this extraordinary adventure, where the Stockholm Archipelago becomes not just a destination, but a journey of the soul.
Winter kayaking in the Stockholm Archipelago is an unforgettable and purely magical experience. Escape the crowded city center, jump into one of our kayaks, and explore the archipelago from the best perspective. The area around Vaxholm is one of the most beautiful places to paddle, offering stunning views and a sense of tranquility. As you paddle, enjoy the fresh, clear air and the picturesque scenery that transitions into pale tones during winter.
Admire the spectacular natural environment, see the charming wooden cottages, and listen to fascinating local stories. Along the way, you can try a Swedish fika in nature, adding to the unique experience. Despite being just 30 minutes away from Stockholm, you’ll feel worlds apart in this serene setting.
After your kayaking adventure, warm up with our traditional wood-burning sauna and, for the full archipelago experience, take a refreshing cold dip in the sea. This combination of activities ensures a memorable and invigorating day in the Stockholm Archipelago.

Frequently asked questions
Winter temperatures vary in Sweden so layers are the key! You will be provided with the drysuit and boots which will keep you dry but you still need good layers under to stay warm. Avoid cotton and seek for synthetic and thermal clothing. Wear warm thermal underwear as a base layer and tights and fleece as a middle layer. Remember to keep your feet and head warm – wear double socks, preferably wool and a warm hat. You should also have sunglasses on a sunny day. If you wear prescription glasses we also recommend using a strap.
Please don’t wear jewelry, you will have to remove bracelets, watch, earrings and rings before wearing the drysuit.
Kayaking is an adventure in any weather. In Sweden, we say, ‘There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.’ You’ll be amazed at how enjoyable it can be to paddle, rain or shine (though let’s hope for more shine!). Just make sure to wear the right outdoor clothing and remember, you might get wet even when it’s not raining – that’s just part of the kayaking experience!
In winter, we provide drysuits. In other months, we have waterproof kayak jackets available in case of rain. During thunderstorms or very strong winds, we may have to cancel or reschedule tours for safety reasons.
Most of our tours are beginner friendly and prior kayaking experience is not necessary. Good general physical condition, ability to swim and taste for adventure is enough to join the group.
Our kayak center is easily accessible and affordable via public transportation, with the bus stop located just 100 meters away. We highly recommend arriving by bus and returning by ferry for a scenic and enjoyable journey.
To reach us, take the T14 subway line towards Mörby Centrum. Upon arrival at Danderyds sjukhus station, transfer to bus 670, which stops at the Engarn station, a short walk from our center. For more detailed information, including schedules and routes, please visit the waxholmsbolaget.se website. Tickets for the subway and bus can be purchased at sl.se.
