Quick details
Träskö-Storö is part of the Hjälmö-Lådna Nature Reserve. Once you land with a kayak, you may be greeted by grazing sheep from the farm Västergården on Hjälmö. We recommend also a walk along wonderful nature trail and after all relax in sauna. The Archipelago Foundation is the owner of large parts of the island since 1963. The cottage near the sauna, “Augustssonskans torp”, is named after the woman who lived here up until the 1970s. The south side of Träskö-Storö is privately owned.
The island has a rich fauna, you can meet here among others: badgers, foxes, hares, deer and sometimes even moose. While kayaking you have great chance to see two big predator birds: white-tailed sea eagles and osprey. Right next to Träskö-Storö is Stora Kalholmen, where a red building, built in 1914, became the first hostel in the archipelago. There is a sauna too (which saved our live once while kayaking in late autumn in terrible weather).
